Villa by the water

Villa Dans L’Eau is a unique building in the world, designed by the architect Martini for the Tavares couple, who wanted a second residence to spend weekends and summer holidays.

Located on the shore of the Mediterranean Sea, the villa skillfully uses the orography of the land to determine the layout of the volumes. It is developed on two levels, with the upper floor dedicated to the living spaces and the lower floor reserved for the garden, terraces, and an outdoor living room. The load-bearing structure is made up of perimeter pillars in reinforced concrete, with a wide span, which guarantee ample brightness and a valuable internal/external relationship.
.

In 2020, after having been the residence of the client’s family for over fifty years, Villa Dans L’Eau was entrusted to Martini Studio for a project to adapt it to contemporary needs. The project focused mainly on the conservative restoration of the facades, sunshades, metal parts and the surrounding wall. The stoneware facades were restored, and the damaged glazed terracotta components were restored with elements fortuitously found in a stockpile. The interior of the villa underwent limited modifications, with a focus on rationalizing the spaces to meet contemporary needs.

Today the villa is a true symbol of modern architecture and has influenced many generations of architects around the world. Bottom line. Thanks to its unique and distinctive design, the villa remains a timeless work of art. A work that will continue to inspire future generations of architects and design enthusiasts.
